In a closely fought Smiths Premier Cup semi-final tie at Raleys Field Wilderpark just had the edge to defeat Halstead United Reserves 1-0.
Paul Burgess got the all important goal in the 78 minute finishing clinically with a left foot shot from 20 yards into the far corner of the net. Halstead applied immense pressure after the strike but the Park defence held albeit with a little good fortune at times.
Wilderpark just edged the first half although few scoring chances were created at either end. Keeper Christian Esposito made an excellent save to deny Halstead from taking the lead mid way through the half.
The second half belonged to Halstead as they pushed forward in search of the opening goal but found the Park defence in resilient form led by Steve Burgess. The visitors came close to scoring when a shot thundered against the underside of the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
At the other end and in the closing minutes Christian Lloyd went close for the Park when his shot hit the angle of the crossbar.
