Paul Burgess rolled back the years on Saturday as Wilderpark defeated Borough Green United Reserves 4-2 in a closely contested affair.
One of the best goals scored at Raleys Field for many years saw Burgess hit a left foot shot from 30 yards over the tall figure of Keeper Ralph, the ball just dipping under the crossbar. This effectively sealed the game and the points for the Park with 15 minutes play remaining and completed a memorable hat trick for the long serving Burgess.
Borough Green United Reserves had earlier taken the lead when a high cross come shot saw the ball go over the outstretched arms of keeper Christian Esposito clipping the upright before deflecting into the net.
With the half time whistle beckoning a remarkable four minute spell ensued with the Park going in at the interval leading 3-1. Firstly, Paul Burgess levelled the scores following good work by Leon Lloyd. James Hagon then scores from the penalty spot followed by a fierce free kick taken by Burgess which the keeper failed to hold.
The visitors pushed hard into the second half in an effort to get back into the game reducing the deficit when Mark Taylor make an uncharacteristic error to give a Borough Green player an easy chance to score. Then came the outstanding Burgess goal.
