Wilderpark triumphed at Raleys Field on Saturday to see off the challenge of Division Three leaders TJFC Seniors to win 4-0 in the First Round of the Junior League Cup.
It was a magnificent all round performance with everyone playing an important role. The Park were almost at full strength welcoming back goal keeper Lewis Hughes after a spell on the touch line and Billy Muckle.
Ollie Barnes in midfield had his best game in a Wilderpark shirt and linked well with Matt Lenton and Mark Taylor. At long last it was a structural performance with the midfield supporting the back four supplement by the flank players Lee Sutton and Adam Balcombe.
It was Balcombe who gave the Park a 1-0 interval lead with an angled shot just inside the upright. The visitors wingers were largely held in check although in the opening few minutes a shot from the right saw Hughes tip a fierce shot over the crossbar.
TJFC came out for the second half determined to get back into the tie with a good deal of pressure but the Park defence held firm. The tie turned when Muckle scored the first of his ‘double’ resulting in ecstatic celebrations.
Hughes was almost a spectator in the Park goal well protected by the defence. The final goal came when Muckle broke down the left and his low cross was met by Andy Streeter who clipped the ball passed the keeper.
The visitors played their part in an enjoyable game and well refereed by Mr Chris de Graft-Hayford.
