Wilderpark returned to winning form against hosts Fleetdown United B recording a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Fleetdown had no answer to the Park’s movement and quick passing during the opening 20 minutes in which they dominated proceedings. On 18 minutes it was of little surprise as the visitors took the lead when an accurate cross by Neil Cutts from the left found the unmarked Leon Lloyd who headed the ball into the net.
But for a number of excellent saves by the home keeper the Park would have opened up a commanding lead before the half time whistle. Substitute Jim Hagon replaced Joe McLoughlin just before the break, the midfielder taking a break after receiving back injury.
The pattern of play following the restart continued in similar vein to that of the first period although Fleetdown came more into the game without giving too many problems to the Park back line in which Dave Hobby in particular was at his commanding best.
Andy Streeter, leading the line in the absence of the injured Danny Brazenell, worked tirelessly without reward but Lloyd on the left flank, so dangerous in possession, was often starved of the ball.
However, it was tremendous approach work from the right with the play being moved out to Lloyd who then took the ball forward before unleashing a superb curling shot which struck the far upright before rebounding to the advanced Richard Dewick who struck his shot into the net.
Fleetdown countered and their best and only serious shot of the game was well saved by Chris Esposito. The game proceeded to its inevitable conclusion and three valuable points as the Park consolidate their position in the table.
Wilderpark Reserves put up an excellent performance to defeat Oak Park Rangers in the Smiths League Junior Cup at Raleys Field. The victors thus gained revenge for a recent League defeat.
The only goal of the tie came during the latter stages and through an own goal. This after the Park had a goal by Alfie Smythdisallowed for offside following intervention from the visitor’s linesman.
On Saturday 10 November Wilderpark entertain Nomads at Raleys Field. Kick off 2.00pm while the Reserves visit Ightham Reserves to play the Division Three leaders also with a 2.00pm start.
